University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Virtual Tour – UIUC Campus Photos with some iconic buildings and achievements
ALMA MATER
Alma Mater is sculpted by UIUC alumnus and world-famous sculptor Loredo Taft. It is the most iconic sculpture and photogenic point in whole campus. This sculpture represents – “Learning & Labor” and it has inscription – “ To the happy children of the future, those of the past send greetings.” This sculpture is believed to give blessings to all those who study here taking pictures with it during special events like Ebertfest, Home Coming, the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon and Graduation is kind of ritual.
ALTGELD HALL
Altgeld Hall was built in 1896 – 97 designed by Nathan Ricker and James McLaren in Romanesque style. It has bell tower which marks the hours, half hours and quarter hours. This building is now a Department of Mathematics. This iconic tower having a pink sandstone ancient style of structure that is visible from all corners of the campus. It is a bridge between the College of Engineering to the north and the Main Quad to the south.
HALLENE GATEWAY
Located to the east entrance of UIUC, it is the stone portal to the first University – built classroom building, University Hall. Take a beautiful fountain at the gate and Alice Campbell Alumni center behind you.
LINCOLN’S NOSE
Located in Lincoln Hall on the west side of the Quad, you will find bust of Abraham Lincoln. This is famous among students for bringing good luck by rubbing Lincoln’s nose before an exam. So you can go and try your luck. If not believing in this ritual, then have a photo with sculpture of Abraham Lincoln bust.
FOLLINGER AUDITORIUM
Follinger Auditorium is a beautiful concert hall and largest lecture hall of University. The southernmost building on main quad and the most popular photogenic spot. The most popular dome on the campus as it is very large and also surrounded by lush green grounds and grove of trees nearby. This is the most recognizable building of campus and forms the main quad in front of it. This circular building is 120-foot sq. ft. and has 396 lights in copper dome. This building is constructed in Beaux-Arts style and was original to the composer Edward McDowell.
ILLINI UNION
Designed by architect, Ernest L Stouffer located at West Green Street in Urbana, Illinois. It serves as the student union, cafes, restaurants, social meeting point, and an Illini hotel. It was built in 1941 and Georgian Revival architectural style. Even the interiors are worth admiring by man-made woodworks and also many colonial traditions. It serves as a social space for students, faculty, guests around the world.

Mc FARLAND TOWER
A dream of Chimemaster – Albert E Marion got shaped in 1958. This 49 bells tower which is computer programmed can play 500 bell-songs. As Altgeld Hall at the Main Quad could not hold so many bells, this tower is constructed which can play any combination of songs through electronic programming.
ECE BUILDING
Located on Wright Street, this modern style of building houses high tech learning in field of electrical and computer engineering. This special feature of this building is that it is designed as one of the largest net-zero energy building which is one of the most unique in the whole nation. Having numerous solar arrays on roof, it has self-generated electricity.
For energy conservation this building has implemented chilled-beam heating and cooling technique. A one of its unique building on campus which comprises of all modern technology teaching methods and also running on energy-efficient method. What a great way to teach students modern technology and energy conservation hand in hand without stopping any future developments too.
UIUC ENGINEERING HALL
Located on the Green Street facing Illini Union and on the southern end of the Bardeen Quadrange, it is an administrative building. This building of UIUC College of Engineering is well known for its color scheme co-ordination and in fact the University’s official colors are adapted from it. You can see the deep orange bricks and navy blue roof and so the official flag, or color code of this university is too orange and navy blue.
This building was completed in 1894 and due to its interesting orange and blue color scheme, the University too adopted these colors as it’s official color scheme. This campus is not only the beautiful spot of UIUC but also ranks as one of the world’s top-ranked Engineering Campus. KRANERT CENTER OF PERFORMING ARTS AND AMPHITHEATER
For 50 years this amphitheater is one of the most famous amphitheater in Midwest for music & live programs performed by well know artists around the world. It has both outdoor and indoor arena. The architecture of outdoor amphitheater is inspired from Greek style of amphitheater.
UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
Consisting of 14 million volumes and 24 million other items, the UIUC Library is the largest public university library in the whole nation and second-largest University library in overall. This library has a beautiful history of imparting knowledge to famous researchers and Nobel Prize winners of the world.
Even you can spot many sculpted busts or achievement boards of Nobel prize winners on the campus and also highlight the area of their achievements in specific field or subject.
STATE FARM CENTER
Huge indoor arena for multipurpose events which has seating area of 15,000 to 16,000 people. Many famous Broadway series and renowned basketball matches are been held here. It has glorious history of many great performers performing here with some mentions of Elvis Presly in 1976.
ETERNAL FLAME
Located between Lincoln Hall and English Building. Earlier it was oil lamp with a flame burning forever which represents Eternal Love. So it is a local belief there, that kissing your sweetheart under it will bring eternal bliss in love life.
MEMORIAL STADIUM
The famous football stadium of Midwest and was built in 1923. It was built in 1923 in the memory of martyrs of World War I and hence it is named Memorial.
Total capacity – 60,000
You can also look out the beautiful metallic sculpture of a footballer in action at the entrance of the stadium.
ILLINI’S ROUND BARNS & MORROW PLOTS
Illini’s Agricultural research is nation’s famous and favorite on this campus. You can visit the oldest continuously formed experimental field in the country. This farm’s experimental research has produced or innovated the famous sweet corn or Illini super sweet corn which is flavor-filled sweet corn and now famous all over the world.
